Abadani-HaFereshteh is an imaginative student of literature, but when her classwork is misunderstood she is expelled from the university and finds a job in a literary publishing house. Meanwhile, her brother Abbas, whose talking robot irks the family's housemaid, builds a mind reading device that can help Fereshteh write a screenplay by enabling her to hear people's true thoughts. On the surface a sci-fi tinged comedy, "What's Up" is also a reflection on the relationship between the literary and scientific mind and the tension between traditional culture and modern technology.
